HUMBERTO'S CURRENT STATUS
As of today, September 28, 2025, Major Hurricane Humberto remains a powerful force in the Atlantic. After briefly achieving Category 5 status over the weekend, the storm has weakened slightly but is holding steady as a potent Category 4 hurricane. Latest reports from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) place its maximum sustained winds at approximately 150-155 mph. Its center is located well to the south of Bermuda, moving in a west-northwest direction at around 13\text{ mph}.
Projected Track and Intensity
The current forecast track shows a decisive turn for Humberto. The hurricane is expected to move around the southwest periphery of the subtropical ridge, turning sharply toward the north-northwest on Monday before accelerating east-northeastward.
Bermuda is now squarely in the cone of concern. While the eye is forecast to pass to the west of the island on Tuesday, tropical-storm-force impacts, including strong winds and high surf, are becoming increasingly likely, prompting forecasters to consider issuing Tropical Storm Watches later today. Humberto is predicted to remain a powerful major hurricane for the next couple of days, gradually decreasing in intensity as it begins its long trek out to sea.
BROADER IMPACTS
Although a direct U.S. landfall is not expected from Humberto, its massive size and strength mean its effects will be felt far beyond its core.
* Dangerous Swells: Life-threatening ocean conditions are the primary concern for coastal areas. Swells generated by Humberto will continue to impact portions of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda. Critically, these dangerous swells, high surf, and life-threatening rip currents are expected to reach the U.S. East Coast starting Monday.
* Other Systems: Humberto's presence is also influencing the path and development of other systems in the Atlantic, requiring continuous monitoring for all interests along the U.S. Southeast coast.
Coastal residents and mariners in the affected regions are urged to monitor the latest official forecasts closely and heed all local advisories. Hurricane preparedness remains paramount this time of year.
